You might have heard that running the disc version of the game with updates disabled will allow it to hit 60fps on PS5, and that's true.
It's like witnessing a painting by one of the Old Masters being expertly cleaned and restored to reveal the full majesty underneath. Well, nearly all of that is remedied by the PS5's extra horsepower, and the underlying quality of the game is able to truly shine like never before on this platform.
Back when Shadow of the Colossus ran at 15-20fps on the PS2 I somehow didn't mind, but nowadays I'm just much less forgiving when it comes to inconsistent framerates in games. At that time, I considered it to be a heavily flawed masterpiece that fell short of the bar set by Ueda's other two games (ICO and Shadow of the Colossus) due to its technical failings. When I first played TLG on release on my PS4 Pro, its performance issues combined with the game's inherent input latency and animation priority diminished my impression of the game overall.
